OUR SERVICES

Medical Abortion

It's a non-surgical way to end a pregnancy by taking medications. Unlike a surgical procedure, a medical abortion usually is done without entering the uterus.

How do these medications work?

Two medications are used to complete a medical abortion. Mifepristone (RU 486, Mifiprex) is a medication that works by blocking the hormone progesterone, which is necessary to sustain pregnancy. Without this hormone, the lining of the uterus breaks down, the cervix (opening of the uterus or womb) softens, and bleeding begins. Misoprostol - 2 days after taking mifepristone, a second drug, misoprostol, is taken. Misoprostol tablets, which can be taken orally or put into the vagina, cause the uterus to contract and empty. This ends the pregnancy.

What should I expect?

Most women describe the process as a very heavy period with a lot of cramping. This, however, varies greatly among patients depending on the gestational age of the pregnancy and their previous obstetrical experiences. You will have a full consultation with the doctor and one of our counselors concerning this at the time of your visit.

How successful is the abortion pill?

At All Women's Choice clinic, over 3000 patients have chosen medical abortion with a greater than 99% success rate. If treatment fails, however, a surgical procedure is usually required. Therefore, if you choose the abortion pill you must be willing to have a surgical abortion if necessary.

How do I know it worked?

When you come to our office for your first visit, you will be given an appointment for a 2 week follow-up. A sonogram will be done at that visit to make sure that the medical abortion is complete and that your uterus has returned to its normal appearance.
Emergency Contraceptives
Emergency Contraceptives

Emergency contraception, also known as the morning after pill or Plan B, is a series of hormonal pills taken within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse, sexual assault or inadequately protected intercourse. It is meant only as a back-up method of birth control to be used on an emergency basis. In fact, before a patient takes the morning after pills, a pregnancy test must be done to make sure that the patient has not conceived. If taken after conception, the pills will not work. Overall, the morning after pill is 85% effective if taken properly to prevent pregnancy. The morning after pill is not RU-486 (the abortion pill); it will not work if you are already pregnant. It is important to remember that emergency contraceptive is not a substitute for routine birth control and it does not protect you from HIV infection (the virus that causes AIDS) or any other sexually transmitted disease (STD).

The delivery is appropriate for all those who want to undertake the termination process in the comfort of their homes with a degree of confidentiality. Also those who are distant from our clinics may agitate for delivery services. If someone is less than 12 weeks pregnant, it is safe to undertake the termination process in the comfort of their home without supervision of a gynecologist since at this stage, the pill induces a form of menstruation causing one to bleed a few minutes after using the pill. However, the pills must be taken as instructed by the doctor. Instructions will be provided upon delivery of the pill for appropriate usage.
